What a five-minute conversation taught me about Ireland. I’ve been traveling the roads of Ireland for more than fifty years. I know the landscape the way you know an old friend — by its moods, its silences, the way light falls differently on the same bog depending on the hour. Every photography trip to Ireland… Read More »The Phone Call that Changed Our Day in Connemara
The Freezer Test. My sister-in-law asked me recently for advice on an encaustic piece they bought when they first married (before I even started working in encaustic). It’s a large piece (36×80) and created by an established artist who worked with a well-known gallery. During a remodeling project it had been taken off the wall,… Read More »Why Did My Encaustic Piece Crack or Delaminate? How to Test Your Fusing
And Why Artists Are Listening. There’s a quiet moment that happens every year at the ranch. It’s early—before the day has fully announced itself. Printing Large Image on Multiple Pages. I’ve been using Photoshop for over 20 years now. I’m not a Photoshop wizard by any stretch, but I know enough to get what I need—and I use it all the time in my photo encaustic work. That said, Photoshop is big. It’s expensive, has a steep learning curve,… Read More »7 Alternatives to Photoshop for Splitting and Printing Large Images
Follow up after selling a piece of art? I recently sold this piece through my website and thought I’d walk you through my follow-up process. It’s not just about documenting the sale—it’s about nurturing relationships. Because people who buy from you once are far more likely to buy again. That’s exactly what happened here. Martha… Read More »Nurturing Collectors: What to Do After You Sell an Artwork
When is it OK to Pay-to-Play? To some extent, we all pay to play in the art world. Whether it’s through exhibition fees, framing, or booth rentals, we often need to invest money to get our work seen. If you’ve ever participated in an art fair, you’ve experienced this firsthand. You’re paying for the privilege… Read More »Pay-to-Play in the Art World: Knowing When It’s Worth It
