How to Repair Broken Pan Pastels

Recently I did one of my favorite things–ordering art materials.

It’s like Christmas all over again when a box of art materials arrives at the front door. This time I decided to go beyond my normal color palette (of black + white) and order an array of colors.

For a second, my heart dropped a bit when I saw that 2 of the pan pastels had been smashed to pieces. Who doesn’t want their new art materials to be pristine?

But it’s actually an easy fix that I wanted to walk you through.

Get yourself a pipette and some 70% rubbing alcohol.

All you have to do is fill the pieces with the alcohol and rub it around until it’s creamy. Let it sit until dry. It might not be ‘pristine’ but it will be beautiful on your photo encaustic piece all the same.
