The first rule of every experiment is experience

Wise words to live by.

My partner is a scientist and he constantly reminds me that the only expectation of your first experiment is experience. I’ve learned, these are wise words to live by.

A couple of weeks ago I pulled back the curtain and did my first webinar for my eCourse, The Artistic Image.

As scary as it was, I survived…but I have to admit, it wasn’t easy. It seemed like the universe was against me at every turn. First I lost my slide deck a week before the webinar and had to redo it, and then I almost had to cancel the day before because my YouTube channel wouldn’t allow live streaming. With a whole lot of anxiety I got over those hurdles and was ready for my first webinar…..but we had some tech issues and I had to abort the webinar 10 minutes into it (some of you were on that webinar and might remember it).

I was so embarrassed though about my failure. Then I started to get some incredibly kind emails from those who were in attendance.

“You are so brave to even go along the technical route. Everything that is new and gets you out of your comfort zone has a very steep learning curve. In fact I think you have now given us all permission to attempt encaustic art and expect failures and to just pick ourselves up and try, try again. So thank you!”

As I was fumbling trying to figure out the snafu, I couldn’t help think about the blog post I wrote a couple of months ago about needing a Fail Club and to celebrate when you fail.

I’m well aware of when you are buying a piece of art you are buying more than an object, but are buying all the failures along the way……all the experiments, all the experience of trying something new.

So, I picked myself up, and had to do another webinar that evening. And this one was a success…..and I actually had fun with it.

I had 94 engaged participants and the Q&A was amazing at the end.

I’m aware though of the effort it takes to learn something new….and the learning curve that accompanies it. I never imagined that I’d ever be doing webinars.

I tell you this because learning something new (like creating artwork that allows you to be more hands-on) can be incredibly challenging. But also incredibly rewarding. Stepping out of your box and doing something you never imagined is exhilarating.

So, I’m doing it again.

I’ve got a brand new online training which if you love horses and horse photography, I think you’re going to love.

So……

If you want to create horse imagery that is different, images that don’t have the same look and feel of everyone else…images that set you apart from the crowd…

Or maybe you’ve thought about adding a creative boost to your work…..and want to express yourself in a new and exciting ways…….

Or quite simply…..you want to get away, be with other like-minded people and immerse yourself in photographing and creating stunning works of art from your horse photography…..

Then this is for you. Join me Thursday July 20th at 11am or 7pm (CST) for my FREE live webinar, Stand out from the Crowd; Turn your Horse Photos into Unique Works of Art.

Here’s what I’ll show you:

  • How to make irresistible photographs that people will be drawn to.
  • That you DO NOT need to be an expert horse photographer to make stunning images that stand out from the crowd
  • Multiple methods to incorporate your photographs with beeswax and pigments and how to choose the right images for the process
  • How you can develop your skills and expand your vision to create powerful art beyond the run-of-the-mill images anyone can make
  • The step-by-step process of taking a so-so photograph and turning it into a painting full of gesture and spontaneity.

I’ve also got a special bonus for those who join this webinar.

Hope to see you soon.

Would love to hear from you if you’ve ever felt like it was just too much effort, but did it anyways. Tell me when it worked and when it didn’t. And what you learned from your experiment.

Be well….be creative,

Photo Encaustic

  1. What a great blog post! I’m so proud of you for having the courage to try new things like the webinar. Or like a scientist. I’m honored to be a part of your life and your work life. Much love…..always.
