Why You Should Create an Artist Book.
My friend and fellow encaustic artist, Kim Pogue, is also a master printer who creates Fine Art Books. I asked her to share some of her insights about why she thinks it’s important to create an artist book.
+++++
We are a species that enjoys touch. So much in fact that half of our brain is devoted to processing sensory experiences. Part of this is what makes encaustic so attractive. How pleasurable is the feel of the hot melted wax? I find it difficult to keep from constantly touching my art when I have worked with it.
So what happens to our art when we have finished? We hang it to enjoy, or give to another to enjoy as a gift or we sell it. It is rewarding to see someone else enjoy what we put so much of ourselves into, but also a bit melancholy when it’s gone. In photography we can make another photograph so we don’t truly ever have to part with our art. Not so in the art/painting/encaustic world when every piece is one of a kind.
If you are an encaustic artist looking to hang on to your creations why not put them in a book? A book showcases your art. Those pieces that you no longer have live on for generations in a book.
The book becomes the embodiment of your work and also presents your work beautifully to a prospective gallery or wherever you may consider showing it.
The giclée fine art book that we create at First Edition Print (www.firsteditionprint.com) can’t give you the feel of the beeswax but it is a tangible, touchable representation of your art, your creativity. It is inkjet printed with 7 colors on archival paper. The depth of color and detail is astounding. The soft touch hard bound cover is creamy to the touch. No one picks up this book without commenting on how good it feels in their hands.

Be well….be creative,
Clare, This wonderful information, thank you for blogging about it. You’re right, why not make a beautiful book about our art. We work hard enough for giving and producing our art.
Thanks Francesca, your work would look so fabulous in a book:) I hope you make one.
