This is why I teach.
I’m recently back from my Wyoming Ranch equine workshop.
It’s not an easy workshop to organize. I have to pack up my entire studio and drive 14 hours to get from St. Paul, MN to Wolf, WY.
But as I cross from South Dakota to Wyoming my energy begins to shift. It’s no longer a slog. The anticipation of turning right on Beckton Road and disconnecting from the rat race of life takes over.
This ranch is the real deal. The freedom I feel our there is unparalleled.
Nestled at the base of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains the landscapes are utterly breathtaking and the power and beauty of OVER 200 horses running past is completely mesmerizing.
I am truly grateful every year that I get the chance to teach there.
It’s hard for anyone to create in a vacuum, myself included. And I find when I go on workshops it’s the people that I meet that continually support and inspire me long after the workshop is over. It’s where I have met some of my best friends. And those connections are the real reason that I teach.
There is nothing like immersing myself with other like-minded artists in an amazingly beautiful setting…..getting away from the daily grind, playing, and expanding my artistic vision.
The workshop is an action packed 6-days of photographing horses and the western lifestyle. We work in the studio, go on rides together, photograph every day, and are there at sunrise as the horses are wrangled in.
Workshops give me the gift of perspective. The trap I easily fall into is being super busy, moving, moving, moving, RUNNING on the social media treadmill, not taking time to make our art, and before I know it—days, weeks, and months flow past and I haven’t stopped to even check if that’s where I want to be heading. Getting away from it all and really just concentrating, immersing myself in the ebbs and flows of ranch life, and making art provides for a new perspective.
And it’s this new perspective that carries me through the year until it’s time to go back again to Wyoming.
If you are interested in more details about the workshop you can find out more about it here. This workshop is always scheduled to begin the second Saturday in September.
Be well….be creative,
Clare, LOVE this! It is so true! The workshop is amazing, but the people and the shared experiences are the best! Can’t wait until next year!
