Doing What I Love

I love my job.

I’ve just returned from a week teaching my photo encaustic equine workshop outside of Sheridan Wyoming. Nine of us gathered in this amazing location at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains and spent the week photographing horses and working in the studio.

It’s the first time I’ve done a workshop like this. But I realized that most photo encaustic workshops just teach encaustic techniques and no one is offering a workshop that includes time to photograph and then work the image with beeswax, pigments, and textures.

We rode, got up early to hike up hills to shoot, photographed in the sun and the rain, ate really well, made new friends, laughed, spent time in the studio, and celebrated our accomplishments.

Every morning as I headed out at 6a (and for those who know me 6a is a stretch). I found myself acknowledging how amazing it is to be able to do what I love—photographing horses and creating art. How lucky am I?

I’ll admit there was an instance that scared the beejesus out of me, but what is life if you can’t feel and the fear and do it anyways? When I photograph horses I’m drawn to their power and feel that anything is possible. Nothing makes me happier than being out in the wide open photographing a running horse. And with 200+ in the herd my heart was filled to the brim.

Below are a few photos from the workshop.

And of course, horses.

It beats sitting in an office any day. Life is indeed good.

  3. I’ve visited your website and can’t seem to navigate to a ‘registration’ page.
Are there spaces left for the Eaton Ranch workshop? If so, how do I sign up? What is your cancellation policy, what is the cost, what is the deposit? What airports are nearby?
    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Karen,
