Choosing the Right Images for Photo Encaustic

By far the most common question I get asked in my classes is, ‘what images work best for photo encaustic?’

I’ve created a video to help answer just that question, Success Secrets: How to choose images for Photo Encaustic.

There are three techniques to incorporate your images into encaustic (mounting and image to a board, embedding a non-traditional paper, and transferring the inks to the wax) and as you can imagine there are pros and cons to each technique and the images you choose for each process.

In this video, I’ll walk you through what type of photographs are suitable for each of the techniques by giving you guidelines and showing you examples.  I not only show you images that work well for the each process, but more importantly, what images don’t work for each process and why.

If you are new to this process, this is a great place to start. If you’ve been working with photo encaustic for while, but something just isn’t clicking regarding your image selection, this video will help. It’s a great refresher for anyone.
